Greg Loewen Named President of Emmis Publishing

Indianapolis…Greg Loewen, Chief Strategy Officer of Emmis Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: EMMS), has been named President of Emmis Publishing effective March 1. He replaces Gary Thoe, who has decided to step down to concentrate on his family business, MidCountry Media, Inc.

“Greg is the perfect person to continue our tradition of excellence in our publishing division,” Jeff Smulyan, Chairman and CEO of Emmis, said. “He is an incredibly adept strategic thinker and his personality fits perfectly into the Emmis culture.”

“Emmis Publishing has a tremendous portfolio and I’m looking forward to working with our team to sustain our tradition of outstanding journalism and accelerate our pace of growth and innovation,” Loewen said.

Prior to joining Emmis in February 2007, Loewen, 38, was Vice President of Digital Media and Strategy at the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest newspaper. He began his career at Monitor Group, a leading strategy consultancy, focusing his practice on media. He is a top graduate of Queen’s University in Ontario (Bachelor of Commerce) and graduated as a Baker Scholar from the Harvard Business School (Masters in Business Administration).

As Emmis’ Chief Strategy Officer, a role he will continue, he has worked with the Emmis corporate team and business units on strategy and business development projects and co-led the digital business of Emmis’ Radio division.

Smulyan thanked Gary Thoe for his years of dedication to Emmis.

“Over his 12 year-tenure, Gary has led Emmis Publishing to its highest levels of cash flow while ensuring that our magazines’ award-winning content remained strong and intact,” Smulyan said. “Gary’s diligence, expertise, and kind spirit will be missed.”
