EMMIS NAMES MCKERNAN VP/GM OF OMAHA’S KMTV

Indianapolis – Emmis Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: EMMS), today announced the promotion of Jim McKernan to Vice President/General Manager of Omaha’s KMTV3-CBS, effective April 8, 2002.

McKernan, 44, has served as General Sales Manager of KMTV since March 1, 2001. He replaces Chris Leister, who has accepted a position as Senior Vice President of National Sales with West Virginia Media Holdings. Leister has been at KMTV since 1986.

“As Director of Sales for KMTV in the past year, Jim has made significant contributions to the improvement at KMTV and has proven himself as an experienced leader and manager,” Randy Bongarten, President of Emmis Television, said. “By building on Chris’ successes, Jim will lead the way in making KMTV the leader in Omaha television.”

Prior to joining Emmis, McKernan served as VP/GM of the Journal Broadcast Group’s Omaha operations (1996-2001), Vice President/Station Manager of Pappas Telecasting Companies in Omaha (1987-1996) and as an Account Executive with May Broadcasting (1984-1987), American Family Corporation (1983-1984) and Meredith Broadcasting (1981-83).
