EMMIS COMMUNICATIONS SIGNS RETRANSMISSION CONSENT AGREEMENT WITH DIRECTV

Indianapolis – Emmis Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: EMMS) announced that it has reached a retransmission agreement with DIRECTV Inc. to offer Emmis’ WKCF-TV (Orlando) and KOIN-TV (Portland, Oregon).

Orlando’s WB affiliate, WKCF-TV, began airing on Friday, June 14, 2002, while Portland’s CBS affiliate, KOIN-TV, will begin airing in the near future. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Emmis Television President Randall Bongarten said, “We’re delighted we have reached an agreement that will allow us to share our product with those DIRECTV subscribers in Emmis’ two largest television markets, Portland and Orlando.”

“With this agreement, Orlando and Portland DIRECTV customers will now have access to their favorite WB and CBS local and national programming via satellite,” said Stephanie Campbell, senior vice president, Programming, DIRECTV, Inc. “We welcome these new additions to the Portland and Orlando local channel lineup.”
