May, 2000 - Emmis announces purchase of 8 network-affiliated and 7 satellite television stations from Lee Enterprises, growing its television division to 15 network-affiliated stations. At the same time, Emmis announces it will explore ways to separate its television and radio businesses.

June, 2000 - Emmis announces an agreement to manage and ultimately own 3 Hearst-Argyle stations -- KTAR-AM, KMVP-AM and KKLT-FM in Phoenix, the nation's 15th largest radio market.

June, 2000 - During the first ratings period, Mega 98.3 (formerly FM News) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, jumps from the bottom of the market to #2 overall, and #1 in the crucial 20 to 54 demographic.

June, 2000 - Emmis announces the purchase of KKFR-FM in Phoenix and KXPK-FM -- the company's first property in the Denver market - from Clear Channel/AMFM.

June, 2000 - Emmis announces settlement of Sinclair transaction. Emmis buys 6 Sinclair St. Louis properties -- KPNT-FM, KXOK-FM, WVRV-FM, WIL-FM, KIHT-FM and WRTH-AM. At the same time, Emmis announces the swap of three of those - WIL-FM, WRTH-AM, WVRV-FM - and WKKX-FM, to Bonneville International Corporation in exchange for KZLA-FM in the nation's #2 market, Los Angeles.

July, 2000 - Jeff Smulyan named 6th most powerful person in radio by Radio Ink magazine.

September, 2000 - Emmis purchases Denver's KALC from Salem - now owns 2 stations in Denver, total of 24 around the country.

September, 2000 - Local Media Internet Venture unveiled at annual NAB meeting in San Francisco.

October, 2000 - Randy Bongarten named President of Emmis Television.

February, 2001 - Emmis sells Indianapolis stations WTLC-AM (1310) and the intellectual property of WTLC-FM (105.7) to Radio One for $8 million. A new station, B105.7 FM, is launched by Emmis on the 105.7 FM frequency previously held by WTLC-FM. A joint $1 million donation is pledged by Emmis and Radio One to promote educational opportunities for minority youth in the Indianapolis area.

December, 2001 - Emmis announces 10% employee salary cut to be matched with 10% Emmis stock award.

February, 2002 - Emmis announces sale of Denver radio station KALC-FM ("Alice") to Entercom Communications Corporation (ETM) for $88 million and Denver radio station KXPK-FM ("The Peak") to Entravision Communications Corporation (EVC) for $47.5 million.

November, 2002 - Emmis announces the purchase of its 16th TV station, WBPG-TV, the WB affiliate in Mobile/Pensacola.

March, 2003 - Emmis announces the purchase of 50.1% of a six-station radio cluster in Austin, Texas in a cash transaction for approximately $105 million. Sinclair Telecable, Inc. owns the remaining 49.9% interest in the cluster. The radio stations involved are KLBJ-AM (590 News-Talk), KLBJ-FM (93.7 Rock), KGSR-FM (107.1, Adult Alternative), KROX-FM (101.5 Alternative), KEYI-FM (103.5 Oldies), and KXMG-FM (93.3, CHR).

October, 2003- Emmis announces the sale of the AgriAmerica Network to Learfield Communications.

December, 2003- Emmis announces the sale of its two radio stations in Buenos Aires, Argentina (Mega 98.3 and Radio 10) and the purchase of nine stations in the Flanders region of Belgium.

October, 2004- Emmis announces the swap of three of its Phoenix stations (KTAR-AM, KKLT-FM and KMVP-AM) to Bonneville International Corporation for a radio station in Chicago, WLUP-FM, and $70 million in cash.

January, 2005- Emmis is named one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" by FORTUNE magazine.

March, 2005- Emmis acquires D.EXPRES, a.s., a Slovakian company that owns and operates Rádio Expres, a national radio network in Slovakia.

May, 2005- Emmis announces it is exploring strategic alternatives for its Television Assets.

October, 2005- Emmis agrees to acquire a 66.5% shareholding in Radio FM Plus AD, a leading radio broadcasting company in Bulgaria, for $3 million.

December, 2005:- Emmis completes the sale of several television stations. Gray Television purchased WSAZ-TV (Ch. 3, NBC affiliate) in Huntington/Charleston, W.Va., for $186 million. LIN TV Corp purchased WALA-TV (Ch. 10, Fox affiliate) in Mobile, Ala./Pensacola, Fla.; WTHI-TV (Ch. 10, CBS affiliate) in Terre Haute, Ind.; WLUK-TV (Ch. 11, Fox affiliate) in Green Bay, Wis.; and KRQE-TV (Ch. 13, CBS affiliate) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, plus regional satellite stations.

Because FCC license renewal is still pending, a fifth station, WBPG-TV (Ch. 55, WB affiliate) in Mobile, Ala./Pensacola, Fla., is being operated under a Local Programming and Marketing Agreement.. The sale price for the five stations is $260 million.

Journal Communications, Inc. (NYSE: JRN) purchased WFTX-TV (Ch. 4, Fox affiliate) in Fort Myers, Fla. and KGUN-TV (Ch. 9, ABC affiliate) in Tucson, Ariz. Journal will also acquire certain assets of KMTV-TV (Ch. 3, CBS affiliate) in Omaha, Neb. and will operate KMTV under a Local Programming and Marketing Agreement. The sale price for the three stations is $235 million.

November 2005 - Emmis acquires a 66.5 percent share in Radio FM Plus AD, a leading radio broadcasting company in Bulgaria, for $3 million. The station group also holds a 40 percent shareholding in Radio Fresh!, a national network with a Contemporary Hits Radio format.

February 2006 - Emmis Chairman and CEO Jeff Smulyan receives the Golden Mike award from the Broadcasters' Foundation of America.

May 2006 - Emmis Chairman and CEO Jeff Smulyan proposes to acquire Emmis public shares. Smulyan later withdraws his offer when an agreement with the Emmis Board of Directors cannot be reached.

June 2006 - Emmis launches the first integration of the iTunes catalog with radio web content.

July 2006 - Emmis completes sale of KKFR-FM in Phoenix to Bonneville International.

August 2006 - Emmis completes sale of WB 18 (WKCF) in Orlando to Hearst-Argyle Television for $217.5 million.

August 2006 - 93.9 FM in Los Angeles flips formats from country (KZLA) to rhythmic pop contemporary, Movin' (KMVN).

November 2006 - Emmis declares special $4 cash dividend to common shareholders.

December 2006 - Emmis Chairman and CEO Jeff Smulyan requests a $1 salary for the coming year to indicate his commitment to the company and its employees.

January 2007 - Emmis closes on the purchase of a majority interest in Radio Fresh.

June 2007 - Emmis completes sale of KGMB-TV in Honolulu to HITV Operating Company for $40 million.

June 2007 - Emmis Publishing announces the purchase of Orange Coast magazine from Orange Coast Kommunications, Inc.

August 2007 - Emmis announces plans to repurchase $50 million of its common stock.

November 2007 - WIBC (news/talk) in Indianapolis moves to the FM dial at 93.1; 1070 AM becomes ESPN affiliate The Fan, WFNI.

December 2007 - Emmis acquires Inforadio, a national radio chain broadcasting in 13 Bulgarian cities. In March of 2008, the stations flipped to from a CHR and information format to Star FM, a classic-rock format.

February 2008 - 101.9 FM in New York flips formats from smooth jazz to adult rock, 101.9 RXP, The New York Rock Experience.

April 2008 - Emmis Interactive becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Emmis Operating Company and begins marketing its services to radio broadcasters and other local media companies.

April 2008 - Eight leading radio companies form a joint venture, dubbed the Broadcaster Traffic Consortium, to build a first-of-its-kind nationwide network to distribute traffic data via radio technology. Emmis is a founding member.

July 2008 - Emmis completes sale of WVUE-TV in New Orleans to Louisiana Media Company for $41 million. This completes the divesture of Emmis' television division.
