August, 1997 - Emmis purchases Network Indiana and AgriAmerica Networks in Indianapolis from Wabash Valley Broadcasting Corporation.

October, 1997 - Emmis purchases Cincinnati Magazine from CM Media, Inc.

November, 1997 - Emmis International awarded a license to operate a new national radio network in Hungary - Slager Radio.

January, 1998 - Emmis purchases Mediatex Communications Corp., parent company of Texas Monthly.

March, 1998 - Emmis forges into television business by acquiring 4 FOX affiliates from SF Broadcasting and two other stations from Wabash Valley Broadcasting.

June, 1998 - Emmis Broadcasting changes name to Emmis Communications Corporation.

February, 1999 - Emmis purchases Country Sampler Inc. from owner & CEO Mark Nickel.

June, 1999 - Emmis purchases Orlando's WKCF-TV, one of the top WB affiliates in the country, from Press Communications LLC.

June, 1999 - Emmis purchases Barry Baker's rights to Sinclair Broadcast Groups St. Louis properties, including 6 radio stations and 1 television station.

July, 1999 - Smulyan named to the 40 Most Powerful People in Radio List by Radio Ink Magazine (#16).

October, 1999 - Emmis has public offering of stock.

October, 1999 - Liberty Media purchases 2.7 million shares of Emmis for approximately $150 million
