At the end of 1990, 93.3 KGSR launched an eclectic adult-targeted music mix. At that point the Album Adult Alternative format had not been given its name, but as the trade magazines caught on KGSR was regarded as one of the first stations under the then-new AAA banner. With core artists including Sting, Bob Marley, Sheryl Crow, Chris Isaak, Bonnie Raitt and Van Morrison Ð as well as Texans like Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Shawn Colvin and Stevie Ray Vaughan - KGSR has more of a roots sound than most AAAs, and actually leans very heavily toward another format, Americana. This only makes sense as KGSR is based in the Live Music Capital of The World: Austin, Texas!
Characterized by its strong commitment to the local community and its long- standing on-air personalities, KGSR has won countless awards from its peers, including station of the year many times at the Gavin Awards. Called one of "10 Stations That Don't Suck" by Rolling Stone magazine, KGSR is a singular signal in a unique city. |
